Longhorns Win Third Consecutive Big 12 Men?s Golf Championship

The Texas Longhorns won their third consecutive Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship after shooting a four round 1130, 10-over par, at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.

The Longhorns outpaced Texas Tech by 24 strokes to break the Big 12 record for margin of victory at a championship set by the 2008 Oklahoma State team that won the championship by 20 strokes.

The Red Raiders placed second with a team score of 1154 to be 34-over par through the championship. TCU rounded out the top-three with a 1167.

Iowa State finished the tournament 51 over for a combined 1171, just one stroke ahead of fifth place Oklahoma State, which finished at 1172. The Oklahoma Sooners fell one place in the final round and finished 58-over at 1178. Baylor maintained the seventh spot with a seven-over 298 in the final round to move their team total to 1183. Kansas and Kansas State rounded out the leaderboard shooting 1191 and 1209 respectively.

Texas’ Scottie Schefler won the Big 12 Individual Championship finishing an even 280 for the championship. Fellow Longhorn Gavin Hall placed second following his third round two-over 72 to finish with a score of 282. Oklahoma’s Michael Gellerman climbed three spots in the final round to tie for third with Texas Tech’s Clement Sordet with a score of 282. Baylor’s Kyle Jones and Oklahoma State’s Jordan Niebrugge tied Texas’ Kramer Hickok for fifth place at 289 (+8).

Texas’ Beau Hossler tied with Texas Tech’s Guillermo Pererira for eighth place at 289. Iowa State’s Nick Vole and Scott Fernandez tied Texas Tech’s Wes Artac and TCU’s Julien Brun and Andrew Presley to round out the All Big 12 Championship Team tied for tenth.

Teams will now look to post season play and the selection show for the 2015 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship. The Selection Show will be announced on Monday, May 4, at 6 a.m. on the Golf Channel.
