Iowa State sophomore Kristin Scott was tabbed the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while teammate Ashley Joens garnered her second-consecutive Freshman of the Week. A five-person media panel selects the weekly award recipients.
Scott averaged 21.5 points and 10.0 rebounds, as the Cyclones went 1-1 last week. The sophomore became the first autonomy conference player since at least 1999-00 to score 31 or more points and connect on a perfect 11-of-11 from the field in the victory at Oklahoma State. The weekly accolade is the first for Scott.
Last week, the freshman Joens averaged 10.5 points and 7.0 rebounds for Iowa State. She scored 17 points, corralled seven rebounds and shot 50 percent (6-of-12) from the field in the Cyclones’ 84-71 win at Oklahoma State.
