Martin and Joens Garner Week 13 Awards

West Virginia redshirt junior Tynice Martin was selected as the Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Iowa State’s Ashley Joens collected her third-consecutive Freshman of the Week accolade. A five-person media panel selects the weekly award recipients.

Martin had a pair of 20-point games and averaged 24.5 points in West Virginia’s two victories last week. The Atlanta native netted a season-high 27 points in WVU’s first win at No. 12 Texas and paced the Mountaineers with 22 points in the win over Kansas. The weekly award is the second for Martin this season and the third in her career.

Joens averaged 10.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and shot 46.7 percent (7-of-15) from the field in Iowa State’s two wins last week. The freshman connected on 4-of-9 from three-point range and finished with 16 points in the Cyclones’ victory at K-State.
