Iowa State’s Wesley Kiptoo and West Virginia’s Ceili McCabe were named the week seven Big 12 Cross Country Runners of the Week. Both were also named the NCAA & NJCAA XC National Athletes of the Week. McCabe was the sole Division 1 women’s winner while Kiptoo was a co-NCAA Division 1 men’s honoree.
Kiptoo took home the men’s 8k individual title at the 2021 Nuttycombe Invitational while leading No. 6 Iowa State to the race’s team title. The 2020 Cross Country All-American led Friday’s race wire-to-wire, finishing with a time of 23:11.12 which was more than nine seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. The junior helped Iowa State finish with 88 team points to best a field that featured 18 nationally-ranked teams. This is Kiptoo’s second Big 12 weekly award this season and third overall.
McCabe finished in first place in the 6k at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational with a time of 19:57.4. West Virginia was one of 36 schools racing in the Nuttycombe Invitational with a total of 267 runners. The Mountaineers finished 19
th overall. This is her second Big 12 cross country weekly award.
