Oklahoma, Texas Share 2023 Big 12 WBB Regular Season, Seeds Set For Championship

For the first time since 2014, the Big 12 women’s basketball regular season championship was shared, as Oklahoma and Texas were named co-champions after wins over Oklahoma State and Kansas State, respectively, Saturday. It is Oklahoma’s first Big 12 title since 2009, while Texas receives the trophy for the first time since 2004.
 
Texas earned the top seed in the 2023 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship, held March 9-12 in Kansas City’s Municipal Auditorium. With a 14-4 record, the Longhorns earned the tiebreaker due to a 2-0 head-to-head record against the No. 2 seed Oklahoma.
 
Iowa State enters as the No. 3 seed after an 11-7 Conference season. Three teams, No. 4 seed Oklahoma State, No. 5 seed West Virginia and No. 6 seed Baylor, tied at 10-8. Oklahoma State and West Virginia both boasted a 3-1 record among tied teams, with the Cowgirls earning the tiebreaker due to a 1-1 record against top-seeded Texas. The top six seeds earned byes into the quarterfinal round on March 10.

The first-round games on March 9 feature No. 7 seed Kansas facing No. 10 seed TCU and No. 8 seed Texas Tech facing No. 9 seed Kansas State.

The Big 12 will introduce a variety of entertainment and fan experience enhancements for both 2023 Phillips 66 Big 12 Basketball Championships. The enhancements include musical acts, merchandise collaborations, VIP appearances and more. Special performances will include Grammy-nominated Hip-Hop legend Fat Joe as well as NBA Hall-of-Famer and media personality Shaquille O’Neal, under his alias DJ Diesel.
