Baylor’s Shaylon Govan (Player) and Oklahoma’s Alex Storako (Pitcher) garnered Big 12 recognition for the third week of the season. Govan guided BU to a 5-0 mark and a ranked win over then-No. 21 Maryland while Storako helped OU to a dominant weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic where the Sooners went undefeated and outscored their opponents 50-4, including a 14-0 victory against then-No. 1 UCLA.
Govan hit .571 with three home runs, including a three-run homer against No. 21 Maryland, to lift the Bears to first place at the Baylor Invitational. The native of Katy, Texas totaled 10 RBIs, 18 total bases and a 1.286 slugging percentage which all placed atop the Conference leaderboard for the week. Govan was named to the Baylor Invitational All-Tournament team. The sophomore leads the nation this season with 29 RBIs.
Storako was exceptional in OU’s five-inning takedown of the top-ranked Bruins. The graduate transfer from Michigan twirled a complete-game shutout, surrendering no runs or walks and just three hits to go with five strikeouts. The right-handed pitcher entered a bases-loaded jam against Loyola Marymount on Saturday and retired the side with a pair of strikeouts while also throwing four scoreless innings against Cal State Fullerton on Friday. On the weekend, the two-time All-Big Ten First Team member collected two wins in three appearances, while striking out a combined 11 batters with no runs allowed, one walk and six hits. Storako is 4-0 in the circle in 2023 with an ERA of 0.34 with 26 strikeouts.
